Public Statement from Kramer Law Clinic about SOBE's case update

ree

SOBE Concerned Citizens has been working with Kramer Law Clinic at Case Western Reserve since 2023. The pro-bono lawyers wrote the moratorium ordinance against gasification and pyrolysis in Youngstown that was unanimously voted and renewed by Youngstown city council and signed by Youngstown's mayor. They continuously work with us and provided us with a public statement explaining the current happenings with SOBE Thermal Energy Systems, LLC case. Please read below.

"On Thursday, September 18, 2025, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) ordered SOBE Thermal be placed into receivership. Due to the company's failure to make timely payments to the owner of its boiler equipment, it cannot ensure adequate heating and cooling as well as hot water service to downtown businesses and residents. The appointed receiver will oversee operations necessary to continue service to SOBE Thermal's customers. SOBE Concerned Citizens applaud the PUCO for taking care of Youngstown residents and we continue to fight to prevent construction of SOBE Thermal's proposed pyrolysis plant in our downtown. SOBE Thermal is a company already in financial distress and is not the type of neighbor we want in our downtown."
